Anchored in the Singapore Mathematics Curriculum Framework, our Mathematics programme aims to nurture logical thinkers, confident problem solvers and creative inquirers. Through our programmes, Woodgrovians build a strong foundation in mathematical concepts and skills, empowering them to reason, communicate and apply mathematics with confidence across a variety of real-world contexts.
Guided by the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach, our lessons are carefully designed to make learning meaningful and joyful — progressing from hands-on, tangible experiences to pictorial representations and finally to abstract mathematical thinking. Through purposeful activities, games and collaborative learning, our students develop the curiosity, resilience and critical thinking skills they need to thrive as mathematical learners.

With a strong foundation, a genuine curiosity for Mathematics and the confidence to tackle challenges, we hope to nurture every Woodgrovian to grow into a thoughtful, capable young learner who can apply mathematics meaningfully in everyday life and beyond.
Tier 1 – Experience. Building a Joyful Foundation in Mathematics
From their very first years with us, Woodgrovians are immersed in experiences that make mathematics meaningful and fun. In the lower primary years, students explore mathematical concepts through hands-on activities, games and collaborative learning, developing a strong foundation while cultivating curiosity and enjoyment in the subject. To ensure every Woodgrovian builds a confident start, our Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM) programme provides targeted small-group support for students who need additional help strengthening their numeracy foundations alongside the main curriculum.
As they move into the middle primary years, students deepen their understanding through purposeful learning experiences that build critical thinking, logical reasoning and growing independence. By the upper primary years, Woodgrovians tackle increasingly complex and authentic problems, making connections between mathematical concepts and real-world situations as they become resilient, confident learners.
Central to this journey is our CPA approach, where students progress from working with physical manipulatives to pictorial representations and finally to abstract mathematical thinking — ensuring that every concept is understood deeply before moving forward.

Tier 2 – Expose. Strengthening Every Learner
To deepen mathematical curiosity and stretch thinking beyond the classroom, selected Primary 4 and 5 Woodgrovians are invited to take part in the E2K Mathematics Programme. Through puzzle and game-based learning activities, students explore mathematical ideas in creative and exploratory ways, developing higher-order problem-solving skills, inventive thinking and the ability to communicate their mathematical reasoning with clarity and confidence. E2K sparks a genuine love for mathematics by showing students that the subject is not just about getting the right answer — it is about thinking boldly, questioning deeply and discovering the joy of mathematical inquiry.

Tier 3 – Excel. Stretching Abilities, Igniting Passion
Beyond the classroom, Woodgrovians with a passion and aptitude for mathematics are given opportunities to stretch their abilities and shine on external platforms. Through the Math Olympiad (MO) programme, identified students undergo focused preparation before being purposefully matched to competitions that best suit their strengths, giving every participant the best opportunity to excel and grow.
These competitions include the Singapore Mathematical Kangaroo Contest (SMKC), an international competition that challenges students to apply creative and logical thinking to solve non-routine problems, the Raffles Mathematical Olympiad (RMO), which stretches students with rigorous and thought-provoking problem set, the National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore (NMOS), which provides students with an exciting platform to demonstrate their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving abilities on a national stage, and the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS), one of the most prestigious primary-level mathematics competitions in the region, which pushes our strongest mathematical thinkers to perform at the highest level.
Through these platforms, every Woodgrovian who steps forward grows not only in mathematical ability, but also in resilience, confidence and the joy of rising to a challenge.
