CCE-PAL (Programme for Active Learning)
PAL is an integral part of the curriculum for all Primary 1 and 2 Woodgrovians. Through experiential learning, Woodgrovians discover new interests, express themselves, learn with others and build confidence in a joyful and supportive environment.
PAL provides an important early foundation for Woodgrovians to embody good character and develop the competencies to lead self and, progressively, others. Through age-appropriate experiences, students practise the school's iGR³ACE values - Integrity, Gratefulness, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Adaptability, Courage and Empathy - while strengthening their social-emotional competencies.
PAL is designed around five key characteristics:
Places Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and values at the heart of learning;
Is driven by hands-on and experiential learning;
Engages students in creative and purposeful ways;
Provides opportunities for students to explore, make choices and create; and
Makes learning fun, enjoyable and meaningful.
At Woodgrove Primary School, PAL lessons are customised to strengthen students' E21CC competencies and support their progressive attainment of the CCE 2021 Developmental Milestones. As young Woodgrovians learn to manage themselves, persevere through challenges, communicate, cooperate, take turns, show empathy and encourage one another, they begin to experience what it means to lead with character. These early experiences also nurture habits of care, responsibility and contribution that form the foundation for concerned citizenship as they progress through school.
As part of the Woodgrovian Experience - Woodgrove's Total Curriculum - PAL makes character development lived and visible through everyday actions, interactions and choices, within a caring and inclusive learning environment.
