CCE - National Education
National Education (NE) is a significant aspect of Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) and an integral part of the Woodgrovian Experience.
In alignment with the CCE 2021 Primary syllabus, NE provides opportunities for Woodgrovians to explore what it means to be Singaporean, understand Singapore's realities and challenges, appreciate our multicultural society, and develop the dispositions to participate actively and responsibly in shaping our shared future.
From Understanding to Responsible Action
At Woodgrove, NE learning is designed through a Head-Heart-Hands approach so that students do more than acquire facts. They make personal meaning of their learning, connect it to values and translate it into responsible choices and action.

National Education Citizenship Dispositions
Our NE experiences support the development of the key citizenship dispositions emphasised in National Education: a sense of belonging, a sense of reality and a sense of hope - dispositions that strengthen the will to act.

These dispositions closely reflect Woodgrove's aspiration to develop concerned citizens who are emotionally rooted to their school, community and nation, and active contributors who do their part with their heads, hearts and hands.
National Education Through Commemorative Days
The four NE Commemorative Days are purposeful learning platforms linked to significant aspects of Singapore's story. Through FTGP/CCE lessons, curated fringe activities, Kindsville learning experiences, dialogue and reflection, Woodgrovians connect national issues to their own lives and consider how they can contribute to the common good.
Total Defence Day
Total Defence Day helps Woodgrovians understand Singapore's vulnerabilities and the importance of preparedness, resilience and collective responsibility. Students learn that everyone has a role to play in keeping Singapore strong and secure, beginning with responsible actions and the ability to care for and support others.

International Friendship Day
International Friendship Day develops Woodgrovians' awareness of Singapore's place in an interconnected region and world. Students learn to appreciate cultural diversity, build respect for people from different backgrounds and recognise the importance of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding across borders.

Racial Harmony Day
Racial Harmony Day enables Woodgrovians to appreciate Singapore's multicultural heritage and understand that racial and religious harmony must be continually nurtured. Through shared cultural experiences, students learn to respect differences, build empathy and strengthen the relationships that hold our diverse society together.

National Day
National Day brings Woodgrovians together to celebrate our shared identity and reflect on Singapore's journey. Students deepen their sense of belonging and gratitude, consider their hopes for Singapore and recognise that each person has a part to play in contributing to the nation's future.

Every Woodgrovian: A Concerned Citizen and Active Contributor
At Woodgrove, National Education is more than the commemoration of four special days. It is part of a coherent, school-wide CCE experience that helps Woodgrovians understand their identity, appreciate others, engage with Singapore's realities and translate values into action. Through these experiences, they grow as learners, contributors and leaders with character - rooted in Singapore and ready to engage the wider world.
