‘Bacalah Sayang’ is a programme tailored to support our primary one Malay Language pupils who has reading challenges. This programme is focused in capturing our pupils’ interest in reading. During lessons, pupils experience hands-on activities and visual aids to help them develop their reading skills. By reading at their own pace, pupils develop a clear understanding on the pronunciation and the meaning of the words from the text they read. Thus, pupils who graduate from this programme are able to read simple texts. Through the years, we have seen improvements in our pupils’ reading skills with the help of this programme. Pupils are seen making an effort to read by themselves. We hope that with the continuation of this programme, our pupils will have a positive attitude towards reading and this will facilitate their assimilation to our Malay Language Department’s mission which is to be linguistically well-versed pupils.
