Vision

Develop students to excel academically and learn to be morally upright.

 

Mission

To mould pupils into upright individuals who are linguistically well-versed and able to preserve their identity and culture, for the good of the community and nation.

 

The Tamil Department is continuously striving to upgrade pupils’ competence in the language through various programmes and enrichment activities.  Our aim is to nurture our pupils into confident and competent speakers and writers of the Tamil language.

 

Activities

In order to achieve our objective, the Tamil department is continuously  striving to organise creative and meaningful activities:

 

  • Drama Workshop for Primary 3 and Primary 4 pupils
  • Learning Journey to Little India (Pongal Festival)
  • Learning Journey to the Umar Pulavar Language Centre
  • Literary Competitions
  • 'Let's Read Together' - Reading Mum Programme
  • Motivational Talk for parents
  • Story-telling competitions
  • Essay writing competitions
  • Oratorical contests
  • Penmanship and Singing competitions.

 

Pupils are also encouraged to participate at the North 7 Cluster Day activities. Such activities have helped them to foster team spirit and enable them to acquire skills that are essential for group work. Good essays written by pupils have also been selected to be published in the North 7 cluster magazine.

 

 

These activities are organised to encourage and engage our pupils to use the language and to cultivate the love for the language.

 

 

Motivational Talk for Parents on how to inspire their children

 

Yasira Sakena of Primary 4E clinched First Prize in 3 competitions. She won the top prize at the Recital Competition (P4-6 Category) organized by the Tamil Language and Cultural Society. She also participated at the ‘National Tamil Students Competitions’ organized by the Henderson Community Club. She emerged the Champion in both the Picture Composition and Story-telling Competitions.

 

Rizwana Begum of Primary 6E received a Consolation Prize in an Essay Writing Competition and Nanthini of Primary 5E received a Consolation Prize for the Recital Competition.

It is heartening to note that Senthilkumar Soorya of Primary 5E who is a promising talented pupil with a flair for Tamil Language has participated in many Tamil Oratorical and Storytelling Competition at National level.

 

His commitment and dedication have enabled him to clinch many prizes at National level. His oratorical and presentation skills were praised by judges, participants and audience.
